Writing Tip #4

Posted Apr 30 2007 by Amanda | Filed under Writing Tips

Here’s a mistake that a lot of people make with quotations:

The punctuation almost ALWAYS goes INSIDE the final quotation mark. This includes commas, periods, etc.

Incorrect: Then he said, “I really love going to dog shows”.

Correct: Then he said, “I really, really love going to dog shows.”

Incorrect: The concept, called “awesomeness”, has nothing to do with Britney Spears.

Correct: The concept, called “awesomeness,” has NOTHING to do with Britney Spears.

Resume Page

Posted Apr 24 2007 by Amanda | Filed under Announcements

We’re still working out the kinks with the site, but if you click on Editing Services, you can see the pages for Cover Letters and Resumes under Related Pages. Hopefully soon these pages will show up within the editing category and it will be easier for you all to navigate the site.

Also, I am exploring easier payment options so that you can “check out” right here on the site instead of having to log into your PayPal account. I’ll keep you updated with these developments.

For now, please take a look at the new Resume page, located under Editing Services. I appreciate all the great feedback I’ve been getting from clients lately, and I wish all my students luck as finals period quickly approaches.

For A Good Cause

Posted Apr 18 2007 by Amanda | Filed under Social Awareness

Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to let everyone know about a cause I care about and how you can help. The Brain Tumor Society works with victims and their families to provide support and resources for those affected by brain tumors. BTS is a non-profit organization dedicated to ridding the world of brain tumors as well as spreading awareness to the public.

On Sunday, May 20, BTS is holding its annual Ride for Research, which raises funds for research aimed at finding a cure for all brain tumors. And the smallest donation helps.

Please view the Ride for Research area of the BTS Web site here, and I urge you to sponsor a rider, donate to a rider, register as a virtual rider, or volunteer on Ride day. Anything you can do will be much appreciated by me and by the whole BTS family.

Please e-mail or IM me with any questions or comments. Thank you.

Essay Editing Questions

Posted Apr 13 2007 by Amanda | Filed under Announcements

Q. Can I single space my paper?

A. You can, but I’d prefer it to be double spaced, and I’m sure your teachers would, too.

Q. Is there a page minimum?

A. No, but the price minimum for editing is $10. That’s why the first page is $10 and the rest are only $3.

Q. How do I know what a page really means?

A. For editing purposes, a page is 250 words. This keeps things consistent despite any formatting or font changes.

Any other questions?

Writing Tip #3

Posted Apr 11 2007 by Amanda | Filed under Writing Tips

Here are three words I see misspelled in e-mails, IMs, and personal profiles all the time. Train yourself to spell these and other words correctly, because you don’t want to spell things wrong that will be seen by other people. You never know who could be reading them, and you don’t want to come across as a careless writer to teachers, professors, bosses, potential bosses, and people who pride themselves on flawless spelling. Just work on it a little bit–it’s easy to fix. Train yourself to be a little embarrassed of spelling mistakes. Yours and anyone else’s.

Definately Definitely: We don’t even pronounce this word with an “a” sound, so I don’t understand why people love spelling it that way. This word is spelled how it sounds.

Rediculous Ridiculous: Think of the word “ridicule,” which is the base of this word and always sounds like it’s spelled with an “i.” And try saying to yourself, “Red is not ridiculous,” so you won’t spell it with an “e.”

Genious Genius: This one just looks bad, guys. I don’t really have a trick for remembering this one, other than thinking about it and making sure it’s correct before you post it anywhere.

Any others to add?

People Really Like Me (New Testimonials)

Posted Apr 07 2007 by Amanda | Filed under Announcements

Since self-promotion isn’t the most credible way of presenting myself to the world, I hope you’ll take a look at what other people have to say about me and my services on my Testimonials page. One of the best things about this kind of business is the valuable feedback I get from my clients.

*Raises glass* Here’s to my great clients! And here’s to many more.
